Most companies have integrated Knowledge Harvesting within their working environment, Knowledge harvesting provide companies with numerous benefits. Having Knowledge harvesting integrated within an organisation is essential as it allows organisations to capture any tacit knowledge that individuals possess thus allowing it to be kept within the organisations institutional memory. This allows other people to use this knowledge to make informed decisions. Different organisations use different programs to ensure that knowledge within in the organisations isn’t lost, allowing for people to use it.
  •  Organisations need to identify mature and retiring employees who possess knowledge and thus get them to share the knowledge that they have leading to knowledge retention.
  • Programs such as the process-oriented knowledge risk map are essential in for SMEs, as they provide organisations with the advantage of identifying all the required knowledge which is essential in terms of value creation for that specific organisation. This allows for organisations perform activities such as training and other development programs that are essential for the employees of that specific organisation. It also allows for organisations to prepare in terms of impact of readiness for the organisation.
  • Organisation may also use Risk management programs which are essential in terms of quantifying and calculating the risk of knowledge loss occurring, it measures how knowledge loss will impact the turnover of an organisation and looks at techniques from financial risk management and old knowledge loss which can ensure that losses are sustained.

For knowledge harvesting programs to be effective, organisation need to use knowledge base, which needs to be updated on a regular base it needs to ensure that the knowledge is quality and is human created. For knowledge harvesting to be successful the need of it being able to review and validate, the need for immediate transfer of knowledge, the tacit knowledge enablers and inhibitors among others.
