Personal Knowledge Mastery

Personal Knowledge Mastery

We can simply define Knowledge Management as a unified framework, built in a manner that allows us to process and make sense of the universe, which allows us to work more effectively and efficiently, and to contribute to the society in which we reside in.
The concept, Personal Knowledge Mastery allows us to take control of our own professional development, while being connected to the network era. Personal Knowledge Mastery can be simply broken down as, Personal which refers to one’s abilities, interests or motivation, while not being influenced by the external environment, Knowledge, which refers to the interpretation of information and expertise to act upon it, and Mastery which refers to the expedition that an individuals embarks on, from a novice to a fully developed sense maker and Knowledge Catalyst.

PKM Framework

After conducting my own research, according to Harold Jarche (founder of the the PKM, SEEK, SENSE, SHARE FRAMEWORK), Personal Knowledge Mastery works on the principle of PKM SEEK, SENSE AND SHARE which is a lifelong learning strategy. This framework allows organisations or individuals to have a sustainable competitive advantage by means of having individuals and organisation that can collaborate by means of seeking information, making sense of the information or observations and sharing ideas through new advanced technological tools.
I established that to seek is a process of keeping up to date and discovering new things, and thus requires evaluation and adjustment in terms of the sources of information sources used. Sense refers to how we understand the information in a personal capacity, it entails utilizing what we learnt. It involves critical thinking by means having blog post as it provokes thoughts and feelings thus increasing our knowledge. Sharing is the process of trading resources, ideas using certain technological tools as well as communication with other individuals (Kenneth Mikkelsen & Harold Jarche,2015).

Web 2.0

Personal Knowledge Mastery entails the usage of web 2.0 tools which refers to using internet as a stage where the exchange of information can be conducted. It includes blogs, which is one of the tools I used in terms of conducting research. Web 2.0 tools boost professionals by means of an gift adjustment (Harold, 2008). Under Personal Knowledge Mastery I was also introduced to terminology such as Curatorship which is the skill of distinguishing interesting stuff.
